The Pat o'rourke community award
Formerly known as the Ball Captain’s Award, this honor has been renamed at the request of the Ball Captain to celebrate the enduring legacy of Pat O’Rourke—a remarkable man whose lifelong dedication profoundly shaped the world of gay Mardi Gras krewes.
For over 30 years, Pat O’Rourke served as a passionate advocate, representative, and steward of our traditions. His influence uplifted countless individuals and helped preserve the vibrancy of LGBTQ Mardi Gras culture.
To ensure his legacy lives on, the Krewe of Petronius invites each voting member to nominate an individual—either from within the Krewe or the broader community—who exemplifies Pat’s spirit of service, leadership, and lasting impact.
All nominations will be reviewed and the recipient selected by a designated committee.
Rules for Submission:
- Each member is allowed one submission per year; multiple submissions will not be accepted.
- Members must be in good standing with the Krewe at the time of selection.
- All sections of the nomination form must be completed in full.
- No personal information about the nominating member will be collected.
- Late submissions will be disqualified.
- Nominees may be any individual the member believes has contributed meaningfully to the Krewe and/or the LGBTQ community.
- Contributions to the community are defined as having made a lasting impact on LGBTQ culture or the broader community.
- The selected recipient will be announced at the October Krewe meeting, notified by email, and formally honored at the Ball.
- Members should ensure seating is available at their table for the award recipient.
- Titles or honors (e.g., King/Queen) are not valid reasons for nomination.
- Membership in another Mardi Gras krewe is not a qualifying reason.
- Current members of the Krewe of Petronius are not eligible for nomination.
- All applicants must be 21 years of age or older.
